Mai Miao, a young woman from a rural village who failed to get into the newly restored college entrance examination system by only two points, is hired as a private teacher by the village committee and the village elementary school. After all the trials and tribulations, Mai Miao became the village headwoman and led the whole village to boldly introduce a new variety of peanuts, and the acreage yield of peanuts exceeded the historical yield by more than double. In the spring election the following year, she was once again elected by the villagers as village chief.
